CD

Receiving your course material on CD-ROM is our most popular method (this gives students portability - some even take their CD’s with them on holidays!). The course material may also be copied and saved to a USB stick, as well as downloading, printing and binding the lessons into a folder for you to organise. CD’s are also an excellent choice for people who have a computer but do not have internet  access or have a slow connection.

Online

Online students require a reliable internet connection. Our Student Study Zone allows you to view all of your course material online, anywhere in the world. Students can watch videos, read notes and study illustrations on the computer screen then complete self assessment quizzes to gauge their learning.

Correspondence

Course material may be supplied in a printed format. Students work through notes, practical tasks and assignments. The student is guided by a printed study guide and accompanying materials as well as advice and feedback from tutors. Assignments are submitted to tutors for grading and feedback, and exams can be taken anywhere in the world.

Recommended Sequence of ICB Courses

Meet the Tutors

We believe the hallmark of any good distance-learning school is the level of support provided and how much encouragement, motivation and contact with the tutor is available.

From the beginning of your course you are assigned your own personal, skilled tutor whom you may contact as often as you like. We encourage unlimited dialogue between you and the tutor. Our specialists are there to provide as much assistance as you might need, and to encourage you constructively along each stage of the course.

Our tutor selection criteria requires all tutors to have at least a tertiary qualification (there are sometimes exceptions to this rule where experience out-weighs qualifications) and 5 years industry experience. They must also be active in their industry, and demonstrate a willingness to be student-focused.

Not every tutor is fit to teach by distance learning. Issues such as poor communication, uncaring attitude and unclear expectations can easily ruin a students home study/distance learning  experience.  In addition to the above selection criteria we also, require tutors to have the following qualities:

A. An Encouraging Attitude
Distance Learning tutors need to be helpful and encouraging.  Tutors who “smile” with her/his words can make all the difference on any given day when it comes to student morale.
B. Patience
We look for tutors who can demonstrate that they can be patient with their students.  A caring tutor will contact a student either by email or phone and spend time with the student, addressing any issues they might have with the course material.  Taking time to explain questions and ensuring the student has an understanding of the lesson before moving onto the next topic, is essential, if the student is to have a rewarding learning experience.

C. Technological Competency
We expect tutors to be competent with IT since this is the medium used by most students. ADL offers IT support when needed.
