Are you seeking a career in Medicine, Complimentary Medicine, Health Sciences or Para-Medical field and need a foundation program in Pre-Medical Studies? Our Pre-Medical program is the starting point for this challenging profession and its wide scope of opportunites.The program offers successful students an entry route into various medical schools located in the Caribbean. The program is also acceptable at the prestigious Health Schools Australia for those wanting to study complimentary medicine (Courses can be taken anywhere in the world).
This is an intensive training program designed to provide a foundation for people who wish to either work in medical support; or apply for further studies at a university, which may eventually lead to qualifying as a medical doctor. It is an excellent opportunity for any individual to prepare for a rewarding career in any part of the world in medicine, complimentary medicine, health sciences or a para-medical field. Opportunities do exist for graduates, without further training; but this course by itself does not, nor should be seen as constituting full medical training.

The Pre-Medical Diploma may also be used for entry to various medical universities in the Caribbean. This is an opportunity for any individual in any part of the world to follow a career in medicine. Students do not need to come to the UK to take the course - it can be studied by Distance Learning from your home anywhere in the world. However, once you have graduated with the Diploma you will need to attend full-time medical university.
The Pre-Medical Diploma is designed to meet the high standards and requirements demanded for medical school. Students receive support and counselling throughout the programme.
After graduation from the medical universities, clinical internships are offered in various countries including the USA and the UK.
What's involved?
Complete the required 8 (eight) modules plus the Academic Writing module to acquire a solid background for medical studies.
Am I eligible?
Candidates are considered on a case-by-case basis. The basic entry requirement is a High School Diploma or equivalent, with good passes in science subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Mathematics).
University graduates, transfer students and mature students with or without any science background are also eligible to apply for a place. Additional science-based courses may be required.
Students whose first language is not English must show proof of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5+, TOEFL 650+, or equivalent). Students may begin the program without these scores BUT they will not be allowed to graduate with the Pre-Medical Advanced Diploma until the required score has been obtained.
What is the program structure?
Each module is 100 hours duration. Self-tests, and assignments and a final examination at the end of each module are compulsory. Unlimited tutor support is provided throughout the programme.
Modules (each 5 Credit hours)
Introduction to Academic Writing (non-credit)
Students taking this module will have a basic understanding of academic writing including referencing and research procedures. Only a few hours study time, and very useful in preparing for for studies later on at university. No fee applies for this module.
1. BSC101 Anatomy and Physiology (Human Biology 1A)
This module provides basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
2. BSC109 Medical Terminology
Develops skills to communicate clearly and effectively using medical terminology.
3. BSC103 Biochemistry I (Animals)
Biochemistry is the chemistry of living things. This course concentrates on the chemistry of the animals.
4. BSC110 Cell Biology
An understanding of cell biology is important in many areas of study, for the cell is the building block of all living forms.
5.BSC203 Biochemistry II (Molecules)
Focuses on developing a greater familiarisation with biochemical molecules.
6. BSC111 Physiology II
Develop and build your understanding of the principles of Physiology. Here, we will examine functions of the cells, tissues, systems of the human body.
7. BSC112 Anatomy II
Provides an opportunity to develop and build on your understanding of the principles of Anatomy.
8. BSC303 Biochemistry III (Animal Biochemical Processes)
To explain a range of common biochemical processes with an emphasis upon animal and human biochemical processes.
After successfully accumulating 40 credit hours, and meeting all other academic requirements, all students will receive the Pre-Medical Advanced Diploma from ADL.
Note: each module may be studied separately as each module is a short course in its own right.
Fees
The total cost is £2,360 (10% discount applies if paid in full). Students may also pay module by by module at £295 per module. Further instalment options can be discussed.
Credit Hours Awarded: the Pre-Medical Diploma requires the completion of 40 credit hours - 5 credit hours per module.
Examinations
Students can sit exams in thier own locality. The exam is sent to the adjudicator, who supervises the student during the exam, and then sends it to the college for marking. There are no exam fees. Students will need to maintain a grade B or above in each of the 8 modules. Click here for further details on examination procedures
How long will it take?
Study is self-paced to fit your own lifestyle, motivation and committment. Each module is of 100 hours duration (the equivalent of 100 hours in a classroom setting). For example, committing 10 hours per week of study to one (1) moudle, would take 10 weeks to complete. Five (5) hours per week of study would take 20 weeks to complete etc. Module exemption may be permitted on academic evidence and/or assessment. A £100 fee will be required per module for exemption credit. The assessment fee is £50 per module.
What about Medical School?
Once you successfully complete your pre-medical program, you may choose to study at a WHO-recognised university in the Caribbean. Each university has its own entrance requirments and will consider applicatants on a case-by-case basis. All classes are taught in English. After twenty months of basic science courses, two years of clinical medicine are offered through affiliated hospitals in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
Each university offers reasonable tuition, high quality instruction, good clinical rotations, and a great future for graduates. Their curriculum is consistent with that offered at US medical schools and is designed to meet the licensing requirements in the United States and other countries throughout the world.
Graduates who wish to practise in the United Kingdom must sit for the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) examination, after which they are allowed to practise with limited registration for 5 years (with full approval by the UK General Medical Council (GMC)). Students who wish to practise in the United States of America will need to undertake similar licensing requirements by sitting for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (MLE).
When can I begin?
You may register online and begin at any time. However, all official documents must be sent direct to ADL- Academy for Distance Learning in Canterbury for approval. A student will not be officially registered (Matriculated) for the program until the Registration Fee and all supporting documents have been received.

Module credits that are formally recognized by both ACS Distance Education and ADL (If you choose not to further your studies towards a Medical Degree, these credits may also be used towards a wide range of other Diploma or Degree options, including Health Science and Natural Therapies).
